Friendster

August 31, 2004

So The Accordion Guy is calling people (especially bloggers) to cancel their Friendster account because they fired someone for blogging. I listened to him and just cancelled mine. It’s useless anyway, I never got the grasp of it, I didn’t understand what to do after I signed up. Does anyone else have this same problem? The friends I’ve spoken to feel the same (and none of them have logged in to Friendster for at least 2 months). Friendster is useless and boring.

Olympic Closing Ceremony

August 29, 2004

Well, there’s a full moon and I’m getting ready to watch the closing ceremony of the Summer Games in Athens. I will miss the Olympics, I really like the sportsmanship and competition atmosphere, and people cheering for their athletes.

(I remember very well where I was when I watched Lionel Ritchie sing All Night Long during the closing ceremony for the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. I also remember that Freddie Mercury wrote the Barcelona Olympic song for 1992, but he died before the Games. And Celine Dion sang in 1996 in Atlanta, I believe).

Canada didn’t do that badly in Athens, considering how bad it was during the first week. A total count of 12 medals. What I find absolutely unacceptable is what happened to the Brazilian guy who was winning the marathon: it was less than 5 km to go and this stupid freak wearing a clown costume and an idiotic fanatic sign about the end of the world or something (loyal readers might remember that I don’t like clowns at all), pushed him out of the race, making him lose pace, of course, he finally caught up for the bronze medal and was great about it, but he could have gotten the gold for sure (he won the gold in the Pan-American Games last year in Dominican Republic). How can this happen? it is totally un-Olympic and unfair and sad.

OK, Greek music is coming out of the TV, gotta run now.

Blue Jays vs. Yankees

August 29, 2004

After yesterday’s fatidic 18-6, the Blue Jays are to play the Yankees again today. But thunder hit some power plant about an hour and a half ago and there was a major blackout in downtown Toronto which affected the Skydome. Apparently the Skydome is sold-out (42,000 tickets sold) and the game had to be delayed. I was lucky to be saved from the blackout, it ended across the street on Sherbourne. The game will start soon.

C’est What?

August 29, 2004

Blocked off window. Posted by Hello

Thanks to Carrie for helping me take this picture. The window is hidden in the women’s bathroom at C’est What? The bar is in Old Town Toronto right by the St. Lawrence Market. The old window is blocked off with bricks and an old sign for “Surprise, a pure hard Soap”. The soap probably doesn’t exist anymore because I couldn’t find any references to it on the internet.

Spirit in the Square

August 24, 2004

I just came up from Dundas Square where I watched Perdita Felicien in the 100m hurdles. It was a shame that she fell but everyone in the Square was clapping and supporting her (Angela Whyte was in that same race and she came in 6th place). People from office towers from all around went down just to see the race on the big screen TV. When Perdita gave the interview she said hi to all the folks at home and sorry for disappointing us. It was fine, everyone clapped and we were all supporting her. These things happen. We’ll see you in Beijing Perdita! (and in Rio de Janeiro in 2007 for the Pan-American games).

About Clara‘s comment: I paid close attention to the Little Blue Cow ad and the cow is definitely white, even in the milk carton, it’s white over a blue background and with a little blue maple leaf passing as a spot. Bottom line is that she’s annoying.

The Little Blue Cow

August 23, 2004

I was with Clara having lunch at Mr. Greenjeans and waiting for the inauguration ceremony to start when I first saw it. There was no sound and the ads seemed funny, but after 11 days of non-stop watching I can say: isn’t the Little Blue Cow annoying? I mean it’s not even blue! and how come she wins all the competitions while real Canadian athletes can’t win much? Anyway, I think I’m not the only one who things like that, lsefton has a similar opinion, chrominance has an interesting view on it also.

A quick trip to Kitchen Table (Atrium on Bay) just showed:

One pint of Ontario strawberries $4.99

One pint of USA strawberries $1.99

WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?

August 21, 2004

Yep, Fat Man is out tonight. It never fails, as long as it is a nice/sunny day or evening he is out in his balcony. Tonight he is just sitting there doing nothing.

So long for my plans of going to the zoo or even going to see my doctor about my ear. I partied so much on Thursday that I went to bed at like 5:30 AM, so I didn’t even wake up on time to call my doctor’s office to see if she had any cancellations. I had my breakfast at noon, was up for about two hours and then took another nap just to wake up at 5:30 PM. Too late to do anything, and I was too tired. Ended up cooking my dinner and going to bed at about 10:00 PM. I am delighted that I got so much sleep after “the-week-from-hell”. Tonight I might go to Harbourfront Centre to this arts festival called Planet Indigenous, but first I’m going upstairs to sunbathe all day. It is so sunny and it’s not hot. I love this weather!
